The Cavan Sullivan 1/1 that arrived the same night

By the end of the night, the card was in my hands.

I had bought the Cavan Sullivan spot in a 101cardbreaks break on Whatnot. Out came his 2025 Topps Chrome MLS Sapphire Padparadscha rookie 1/1. It was then hand-delivered to me that same night — an extraordinary hit followed by an unusually quick arrival.

I was gobsmacked. I knew it was special, but I did not immediately appreciate quite what I had hit. There was no second copy of this parallel waiting to turn up elsewhere. This was it.

Cavan was the choice

The start of this story matters, because it was different from my Messi pull. That came from a random allocation. Here, I bought the Cavan spot specifically.

Choosing the player did not mean knowing which card would emerge. The result was card number 6 from the Sapphire release, in its Padparadscha one-of-one form. It combines the rookie designation with the smallest possible print run for that parallel.

There are other Cavan rookie cards and other one-of-one designs. This card’s identity is specific: the 2025 MLS Sapphire Padparadscha. That distinction becomes important when collectors start comparing cards or talking about what one might sell for. In the moment, though, the detail that landed hardest was much simpler: I had hit the only copy.

The same-night delivery brought the whole thing off the screen. I did not have to wait to find out what it looked like in my own hands. That is why the delivery is such a big part of how I remember the break.

A ten at the National

The next important step was grading. Mike at Highgrades helped get the card through PSA at the National, and it came back Gem Mint 10.

For a one of one, there is no choice of copies within the parallel. You cannot put two side by side and decide which you prefer. This was the card, so getting the best possible grade was an especially satisfying result.

The certificate is 172084160. In the slab photograph, you can read the rookie’s name, the Padparadscha designation, the 1/1 and the 10 together. The label records the outcome of the grading process; for me, it also marks the point when an already remarkable pull became an even more memorable card.

From the collection to Rip & Reveal

Antonee Robinson has since handled it during a Rip & Reveal recording, where we asked him about Cavan. A card that had begun with a spot in a break had become something to put in front of a footballer and talk about on the show.

That is a part of the story I would not want lost behind a price. The break, the person who delivered it, Mike’s help with grading and the conversation during the recording are all attached to this one object now.

The debut patch and the wider Cavan market

Another Cavan card has since put a much bigger number into the conversation. Sports Illustrated reported on 5 September 2026 that his 2025 Topps Chrome Rookie Debut Patch Autograph sold through Alt for US$324,000. That is a reported completed sale of a different card, and a striking example of the attention around his earliest collectibles.

The debut patch has a very particular story built into it: the beginning of a player’s professional career, represented in an autograph-and-patch card. Topps features Cavan in its MLS Debut Patch Autographs line. Its collector guide also identifies a separate Rookie Arrival Patch Autograph offering, using material from the shorts worn for his MLS debut with an on-card signature. Those are distinct cards even before considering their individual print runs.

My Sapphire is different again. It is a rookie base-card parallel, with the Padparadscha finish and a one-of-one stamp, rather than an autograph or a debut patch. Its appeal comes from the Sapphire design, its place in that rainbow and the PSA 10 awarded to the only copy.

The US$324,000 result therefore belongs in the background to this story, where it shows what a particular Cavan debut collectible achieved. It would be misleading to place it on this Sapphire’s sales chart or use it as a direct valuation. Sharing a player and a 1/1 stamp does not make two cards the same object.

For me, the interesting part is seeing how the wider story has grown since the break in April. I bought a player spot and hit something exceptional. Months later, collectors are discussing which pieces best represent the start of that player’s career. I happen to have one of those early cards in my own collection, with a delivery and grading story I can tell first-hand.

The next chapter is still open

Goldin contacted me about an auction and relayed an expectation of $70,000 or more. That was the expectation they gave me, not a completed sale. Until there is a confirmed listing and a result, it remains the next chapter rather than the conclusion.

Whatever happens there, the beginning is already a story worth keeping. I chose a player spot, hit a rookie one of one and had it delivered that night. It then came back from PSA with a 10.

I did not take all of that in at once. Looking back at the card now, I can.
